Our story

From F1 to a customer-centric company working directly on commercial projects. The foundation of what BOLD is today.

BOLD was founded in 2019 with one objective: to make Formula 1 battery technology available at scale. Our experience in energy storage solutions and carbon fibre materials uniquely positions us to accelerate the speed of electrification.

BOLD was founded in Girona, Spain, by Bernat Carreras. He studied an MSc Automotive and Motorsport Engineer by Brunel University in UK. In 2019, after a 6-year stint as a Design Engineer working for several Formula 1 Teams, he realized of the potential of lightweight composite structures and high performance battery systems for commercial applications. This made him quit F1 and started BOLD from his apartment in Spain, where he is originally from.

The first two employees were hired to work on battery and composite projects. After going through the initial COVID wave, we moved to our first office and the team grew to 10 employees by the end of 2020.

At that point, based on the forecast of growth and ambition of becoming a battery pack manufacturer, there was a need to find a larger facility. In June 2021, BOLD moved to the current HQ in the north of Barcelona. In only 18 months, the company grew from 15 employees to more than 120 as of Q1 2023. In Q1, the production line has started with the first large volume production project of 1500 batteries.

We are focused on delivering a high level of engineering service and quality products to the high performance mobility market. We have a practical approach to demonstrating our capabilities by working with real applications from day one.
